The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has cautioned youth in the country to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu in his continued efforts to rebuild the economy through the many ongoing national reforms and policies.
Chief Adelabu made this statement during the Oyo State Youth Stakeholders Engagement tagged “Connecting with the Youth” in partnership with the Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Youth Initiative, Ms Titilope Gbadamosi.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adelabu who was represented by the former national deputy youth leader, Hon Afeez Bolaji Repete expressed support for the youth during this economic situation which has largely contributed to some calling for a national protest. He however appealed to all concerned youth to exercise patience with the government to improve and rebuild the economy.

“I understand the economic situation in the country is appalling, however we want to use this medium to appeal to the youth to exercise patience with the government to improve the economy.
“Peaceful protest is always a valid means to express disapproval with the government, but it is also important to exercise patience with the government to improve on the economy.” Adelabu added.

Ms Gbadamosi, SA to President Tinubu on Youths Initiative while speaking listed the numerous benefits of the federal government for youth. She also observed that information has been poorly managed especially in Oyo State which explains the reasons why many youth are not feeling the effect of this administration.


“This government has provided numerous programs that are beneficial to the youth like the students loan scheme. It is saddening to note that information spread has been relatively poor in Oyo State that’s why most youth have not been feeling the pulse of this present administration.


“President Tinubu led government also approved 30% youth representation in all government appointments and the creation of the Nigerian Youth Academy which further provides empowerment and mentorship to youth in the country. There are also many FG initiatives set up to provide grants and soft loans to all small and medium enterprises, amongst many others.” Ms Gbadamosi concluded.


The APC youth leader, John Aremu also acknowledged the importance of a protest at necessary hours to express displeasure with government, he however contested against the timing of the protest as it is only one year and two months into a government that met a grounded economy and has been very instrumental to providing students loan support for those unable to afford tertiary school fees, business support grant for youth entrepreneurs, creation of the ministry of livestock and the national youth investment fund to support start-ups in the youth demographics.

Arewa Youth Leader, Yasir Ibrahim also stated that the protest is sponsored by unknown faces and who have an ulterior motive for sponsoring the protest. He also assured that the Arewa community in Oyo State are not involved in any planned protest against the government.

Other guest speakers present at the stakeholder engagement who also lent a hand or two in the conversation include: Deputy State Youth Leader of Oyo APC, Hon Sayo Fatoki; Oyo State Market Youth Leader, Hon Adebayo Ademola; Mr Adeleke Musofiu from Traderman and Artisan, Oyo State; Simon Ochete, Igede Youth Leader; Comrade Abdulquadri Abdulsalam of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Hon Abiodun Ambali, Comrade Sunday Omosugba, Hon Ayo Akeem Babalola; and Comrade Lateef Olalekan of the Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youth.
