The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports suggesting that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is currently in its custody. The anti-graft agency clarified that despite circulating claims, Bello is not being held at any of its facilities.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the EFCC confirmed that the former governor remains wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged N80.2 billion money laundering case. A warrant for his arrest is still in effect.
The statement, signed by the commission’s Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, emphasized that Yahaya Bello’s status as a wanted individual has not changed. “The public is urged to disregard any false reports of his custody,” the statement read, assuring that efforts to apprehend the ex-governor are ongoing.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Bello faces justice and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing any relevant information that could lead to his capture.
