EFCC Set to Arrest Mudashiru Obasa Over Alleged ₦43.5 Billion Fraud Upon Return to Nigeria

Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is under intense scrutiny by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his impeachment on Monday. Obasa faces allegations of misappropriating ₦43.5 billion in public funds.

Sources within the EFCC told Peoples Gazette that the former speaker, currently in the United States, will be arrested upon his return to Nigeria.

“The evidence against him is overwhelming. This time, he won’t be able to wriggle out. The case has been meticulously compiled, and we are ready to take action,” an EFCC insider stated, requesting anonymity.

Obasa’s impeachment came after reports highlighted his extravagant spending on luxury vehicles. Notably, this is not his first encounter with the anti-graft agency.

In 2020, he was investigated for allegedly spending ₦1.1 billion within a week but faced no charges. However, EFCC officials believe this case leaves little room for evasion.

“Heavy hammer is waiting to fall on him,” the insider added, emphasizing the agency’s determination to ensure accountability.

Political Isolation

The once-powerful lawmaker appears to have lost support from influential political figures, including President Bola Tinubu.

According to sources close to the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Obasa’s attempts to reach out have been ignored, signaling his isolation from the Presidency.

“His political connections have dried up. He’s on his own now,” an insider revealed.

Obasa’s impeachment and impending EFCC probe raise questions about his political future. Observers wonder if he will return to assume a diminished role as a floor member of the Lagos Assembly or continue to evade scrutiny.

EFCC’s Preparedness

The EFCC remains resolute in its plans to apprehend Obasa.

“We have no political interference at all. He will clarify things to our detectives,” an EFCC source confidently assured.

The coming days will determine the next chapter in this unfolding corruption case.
