Emmanuel Alayande University Matriculates 2,600 First Set of Students, As VC, Makinde Charge Students Against Cultism

Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo on Tuesday matriculated 2,600 new students who form the first set of students of the new university under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Olanrewaju Olaniyan with Governor Seyi Makinde also in attendance, ably represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adelabu Solihu.

Prof Olaniyan in his maiden address, welcomed everyone to the first matriculation ceremony. He reserved special praise for Governor Seyi Makinde for his relentless support from getting the former College of Education licensed to operate as a University in December, 2022 to the present state of matriculating 2,600 students in its first year.

Prof Olaniyan while speaking also charged the newly matriculated students to be worthy ambassadors of the institution at all times. He beseeched them to shy away from all social vices, and any form of cultism which is largely frowned at in the univeristy.

“I welcome everyone including the parents and guidance to this special occasion. It is important to state that all these transformations were made possible with hardwork and huge support from the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde. He personally led the school management team to Abuja to get the license to operate as a University in December, 2022.” Prof Olaniyan stated.

“We began the admission process since December 2023, when we presented 50 Academic programs and NCC approved all, then we approached JAMB in January. About 3,606 students applied for admission however, 2,600 are matriculating today and they have all been admitted on merits.

“The many applications came from 24 states across the country with gender spread of 59% female, 41% male and 75% from Oyo State while 25% are from outside the state. The school has 50 programs, 20 departments and 5 Faculties which includes Faculty of Art; Science; Social Sciences; Specialized and Professional Education; and Vocational & Innovative Entrepreneurship Education.” he concluded.

Gov Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. AbdulWaheed Adelabu Salihu reminded the newly matriculating students that whatever they are going to do in life starts from this point onward. He advised them to build on their many ideas as Gen Z and put them into fruition.

“Whatever you are going to do in life, start now and it will shape you for your future. This is the time to face your studies squarely, begin to implement idea and put them into fruition. Run away from social vices and cultism.” Prof Salihu stated.

“I congratulate all students and parents with special greetings to Governor Seyi Makinde for all the efforts taken to metamorphose this institution to a University.” he added.

The guest lecturer, Professor Adeniyi Gbadegesin shared his utmost appreciation to the pioneering lecturers who have joined this historic transition from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education for their renewed commitment to the success of all students.

Prof Gbadegesin in his speech also delved into seven navigation key that will helps to guide the students through their four years journey in the University.

“I will be offering some tips which I have divided into seven keys to help you navigate this 4-year journey, based on my personal experience, they include: Set Goals that Scream Success; Forge Alliance, Conquer Challenges; Humble Yourself; Be Deliberate to Learn and Explore; Manage Your Time Effectively; Make Self-Care Your Secret Weapon; and Radiate Positivity, Flex Your Resilience.” Prof Gbadegesin stated.

Afterwards, the 2,600 students took their oath as bonafide students of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education 2023/2024 Session.

Also in attendance amongst the university management includes: the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olatunde Salawu; Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Asunmo; Bursar, Mr Olawole Ojetola; and Ag. Librarian, Dr Serifat Asiru.
