FG Requests NLC, TUC to Reconsider Strike Threat, Assures on Consistent Payment of Wage Award

The Organized Labour has received assurance from the Federal Government that there will be a consistent payment of wage award moving forward.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, provided the assurance during a meeting in Abuja with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria. This assurance is in response to the 14-day ultimatum that both organizations jointly issued to the government. The ultimatum requests the implementation of the 16-point agreement that was reached with them on October 2nd, 2023.

Onyejeocha kindly requests that the labor organizations reconsider their 14-day ultimatum, as the government is diligently working to fully execute the agreement.

During the meeting, Michael Oluwagbemi, the Programme Director and Chief Executive of the Presidential CNG initiative, addressed the participants virtually. He supported the Minister’s statement by confirming that the government has already paid 70% of the total cost for obtaining new CNG buses and CNG kits.
