Gbenga Daniel Writes Gov Abiodun to Suspend his Pension and Allowances as Former Governor of Ogun

Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who is now a serving senator in the 10th National Assembly has written the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun to suspend his monthly pension and allowances with immediate effect.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel through his official Twitter handle @JustusOGD made this known to the public. His post read:

“After my inauguration at the Senate, I wrote H.E Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, CON on June 14, 2023, to notify him of my decision to have the monthly payment of N676,376.95kobo being gross payment for my pension and allowances as former governor of the Ogun State suspended immediately.

“This decision, I made, in good conscience, moral principles and guiding ethics.

“It is also important to state that this is the only payment and package I get from the state government as a former governor.”

The gesture is a mark of generosity on the part of the former governor who thought it is the most honorable thing to do considering the hardship faced by many people in the country and to further save the high cost of governance in the country while easing the effect of subsidy removal on the people.

This act followed up with different reactions on social media as many felt other former governors who are now senators earning various benefits from government should follow suit, as they can also emulate this character from the former Governor of Ogun.
