Ibadan North: Gov Makinde Picks Deputy CoS, Folajimi Oyekunle As PDP Candidate, Appease Aspirants Support With Appointments

The Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) has concluded their primary election ahead of the August 16 Ibadan North federal constituency bye-election where Gov Seyi Makinde single handedly picked his deputy chief of staff, Hon Folajimi Oyekunle Don as the official candidate of the party.

Hon Folajimi Oyekunle emerged as the consensus candidate ahead of six other aspirants who stepped down to support the governor’s candidate and offered their support ahead of the election.

The contenders included Hon. Kazim Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire from Ward 1, Hon. Kabiru Salami De-Bomba from Ward 2, Hon. Waheed Akanbi Biiro from Ward 3, Hon. Lanre Sarumi from Ward 7, Hon. Kamorudeen Oladimeji Olayinka from Ward 8, Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami from Ward 10 and Hon. Matthew Alani Oyeniyi from Ward 12.

In a way to make peace and pacify all aspirants who lost out in the primaries, Gov Makinde was said to have promised them strategic appointments for the remainder years of his administration.

The compensation plan will have Hon. Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire to replace Hon Oyekunle as Deputy Chief of Staff, while Taiwo Salami will be announced as Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council. Additionally, Hon. Waheed Adeniyi Akanbi Biiro will serve as Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority among others.

It will be recalled that the Ibadan North federal representative seat became vacant following the death of Musiliudeen Akinremi Olaide, of the APC, who was in his second term in office when he died on July 10, 2024.
