The Pioneer Registrar, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju’ Asunmo has advocated for family-friendly workplace policies; creating support groups and culture within the organisations and proper mentoring of women, among other things that could enhance work-life balance for women.
The renowned technocrat and accomplished professional made this call today, at the 2025 International Women’s Day Celebration/Workshop with a theme- Accelerate Action and titled Work-Life Balance: A Holistic Approach organised by the Senior Staff Union In Colleges of Education In Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo Chapter.

According to her, “Work-life balance refers to the harmony and separation between one’s professional life and personal life. Work-life balance does not necessarily mean an equal split between professional responsibilities and personal commitments. Rather, it is about achieving harmony between our career aspirations, personal well-being, and family life without experiencing chronic stress or burnout. It involves managing your time, priority, and energy to the demand of both your job and personal responsibilities while also nurturing your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.” Speaking further, the EAUED Chief Administrative Officer identified some of the challenges being faced by women in achieving Work-Life Balance as Dual Responsibilities (Work & Home); Workplace Gender Bias; Limited Flexibility & Support Systems; Societal Expectations & Guilt; Career Breaks & Challenges in Returning to Work; Mental & Physical Health Struggles; Lack of Strong Professional Networks.”
She concluded by maintaining that “work-life balance is a journey, not a fixed destination. Small, intentional changes can lead to significant improvements in overall well-being while women must learn to prioritise themselves without feeling guilty. Achieving work-life balance is not a one-size-fits-all approach; it requires intentionality, adaptability, and collaboration between individuals and organisations. As women striving for excellence in our careers and personal lives, we must remember that balance is an ongoing process. Let us take proactive steps towards creating a fulfilling and sustainable life where success is not only defined by professional achievements but also by personal happiness and well-being,” she submitted.
