Kaduna: Committee Charges State Assembly to Investigate El-Rufai for Misconduct, Money Laundering

The special committee established by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to scrutinize all expenditures, borrowing, and agreements granted during the tenure of former governor Nasir El-Rufai has presented its findings to the Assembly.

During the plenary session on Wednesday, the chairman of the ad hoc committee, Henry Zacharia, highlighted that many of the loans acquired during the El-Rufai administration were not utilized for their intended purposes. Additionally, he mentioned instances where proper procedures were not adhered to when acquiring the loans.

Upon receiving the report, the Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, expressed concern over the revelation that the El-Rufai administration had allegedly misappropriated a staggering N423 billion, resulting in significant liabilities for the state.

The committee, recommend examination and legal action against El-Rufai and several others in his team by security and anti-corruption authorities for their involvement in misconduct such as awarding contracts unlawfully, misusing public funds, engaging in money laundering, and leading Kaduna State into significant debt.
