The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, in response to a viral video showing two officers manhandling a female hotel worker in Lagos, has ordered their immediate arrest and a thorough investigation into the incident.
This was made known in a statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Thursday.
The viral video showed EFCC officials invading the Annex and Regional hotels, both owned by the same person, around 4am on June 27, while guests were asleep.
The officers reportedly fired shots, injured customers, and arrested some persons.
Hotel staff alleged that the officials broke into rooms, assaulted guests and workers, and took away ATM cards, money, and phones.
He said, “The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable,”
CCTV footage shows officials breaking into the manager’s room, where they were seen pushing and slapping her before taking personal items from a drawer.
According to the statement by the EFCC, the officers were part of a sting operation at Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos, which resulted in several arrests.
