Nigeria Set to Witness Partial Lunar Eclipse on Sunday

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has confirmed that the Lunar Eclipse will be visible today, Sunday 7th of September, in all parts of the country on Sunday, weather permitting.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow that darkens the Moon’s surface.

Experts say the eclipse will be a partial lunar eclipse, meaning only a portion of the Moon will be covered by the Earth’s shadow. The event is expected to begin in the evening and last for several hours.

NASRDA advised members of the public to take advantage of the rare event, noting that it can be safely observed with the naked eye.

The eclipse is expected to last for approximately 83minutes, which will start around 8 PM Nigerian time.

“Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are completely safe to watch without special equipment. Nigerians are encouraged to look up and enjoy the spectacle,” a NASRDA spokesperson said.

There will be the two lunar eclipse visible in Nigeria in 2025, with another one expected later in the year.
