NOA Boss, Isaa-Onilu Sensitises Public on Dangers of Scooping Fuel from Fallen Tankers, Urges Drivers To Maintain Decent Lifestyle

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Isaa-Onilu has called on the general public to abstain from suicidal act of scooping fuel from fallen tankers. He also enlightened tanker drivers and Park Management System (PMS) officials on safe driving practices, vehicles safety with enquiries on ways the government can help to reduce risk hazards on trailer drivers.

Mallam Isaa-Onilu made this statement during a sensitization visit to the Trailer Park at Akinyele on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. In his address, the Director General re-awoken the consciousness of the tanker drivers and the general public on the risk involved in cultivating bad driving practices like drinking before and while driving, improper maintenance of vehicle and body parts. He also stressed importantly, the need to educate the public on the risk involved in scooping fuel from fallen tankers on the road like the recent terrible fire outbreak at Dikko in Niger State which claimed over 80 lives.

The Director General of NOA used the opportunity to call on the trailer park stakeholders and PMS officials to institute a disciplinary committee to punish offenders and curb bad practices of some trailer drivers and their indecent lifestyle.

“We also call on the tanker drivers to go through their daily profession with the Omoluabi ethos, we urge them and other drivers to desist from engaging in indecent practices before going on the wheel. They should avoid bad drinking habits and immoral lifestyles. We also have to be aware of the mental state and every day habit of the drivers, association leaders in the garages and the need to institute a disciplinary committee to correct bad practices in parks and while on the road.”

He also assured the people present of government’s readiness to get all roads into better conditions so as to be more motorable. He urged our people to trust this President Bola Tinubu led administration to get things done across all boards.

He shed light on some of the existing government programs like the students loan scheme and the CNG powered vehicles where the government is paying all registered students’ school fees along with monthly stipends for maintenance and providing alternatives and cheaper fuel for transportation.

Present at the sensitization campaign is the Oyo State Director of NOA, Dr Olukemi Afolayan who was on hand to welcome the Director General on his official visit to the state, others include Alhaji Abdulganiyu Ishola, the Chairman, Trailer Park Management System; the Secretary, Mr Saani Yusuf and a host other dignitaries from the trailer park.
