NOA Director, Isaa-Onilu Calls Stakeholders, Leaders to Promote National Core Values

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Isaa-Onilu, on thursday called on all stakeholders and leaders on their role in shaping, promoting national values. He reminded them on the responsibilities of using their platforms to champion the national identity project and the national values of unity, peace and patriotism.

The Director General who was represented by, the NOA Director, Department of Political Education, Civic, Ethics and Value, Mrs Adeola Adelaja made this remark during a Town Hall Meeting on National Identity Project which took place at the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi Ibadan.

The Director General urged all stakeholders present including the leaders of different religious sects, community leaders, associations, professionals, corpers, public servants, market groups,  and community leaders to all play their role by performing their core responsibilities in the success of Nigeria and also to embrace honesty, hardwork and national pride.

“When we speak of National Identity, we are not discussing identification cards or administrative data. Our focus is on values, the core principles that bind us together as Nigerians and define who we are as a nation. National identity is about embracing values such as integrity, hardwork, discipline, patriotism and respect for diversity.”

Mallam Isaa-Onilu in his address also introduced the “7 for 7 Promise” which stands as a statement to the mutual commitment between the government and citizens which form components of the seven Nigerian Promise to her citizens and the seven Citizen’s Code to the nation.

NOA Director also highlighted some of the mandate and achievements of the agency in reengineering the national mindset through value orientation and attitudinal change campaign which includes: restoration of national symbols; the national value charter and curriculum; and citizens value brigade which is a direct replacement of WAI (War Against Indiscipline).

A few of the policies and initiatives of President Bola Tinubu were also mentioned and not limited to Economic Reforms with fuel subsidy removal and unification of foreign exchange, Social welfare and poverty alleviation programs, Security and National Unity, Energy and Infrastructural Development as well as Agricultural and Food Security Initiatives where the government of the day had deployed N250 billion to boost agricultural productivity and food security to Nigerians.

Key stakeholders who were present at the Town Hall Meeting include the Chief Host and State Director of Oyo State NOA, Dr Olukemi Afolayan; the Director General of the Oyo State Agency for Mobilization for Socio-Economic Development, Dr Morounkola Thomas; the Assistant Controller of Corrections (Nigerian Correctional Center); the Deputy Commandant of NSCDC, Timothy Oladeji; Bishop Daniel Oluwajimade of CAN; Chief Imam Kehinsi, Khalifat Kasunmu who represented the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Sheikh Alhaj Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakr Agbotomokekere, Folashade Daniel representing the Nigerian Police Force; Adetiran Adesoji of the Nigerian Immigration Service; Alhaji Ishau Bolayode representing the Babaloja of Ibadan, Alhaji Y. K. Abass; Iyaloja of Ibadanland, Risiwat Oyinlola; and a host of other top dignitaries and heads of government agencies and departments.
