Power Minister Adelabu Boosts Iseyin Economy with Ikere Gorge Power Plant Concession, Lights Up Okeho with 33KV Distribution Line

The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, was on a high-impact working visit to Iseyin and Okeho in the Oke-Ogun zone of Oyo State, where he presided over two landmark interventions that have ignited joy, renewed hope, and economic optimism across the region.

At Iseyin, the Minister oversaw the special handover ceremony of the Ikere Gorge Hydro Power Plant concession to Quaint Power and Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, a strategic move aimed at unlocking the vast economic and developmental potential of the area. The event was greeted with excitement by community leaders, youths, traders, and residents, who described the development as a long-awaited breakthrough.

Speaking at the Ikere Gorge Dam on Friday, Chief Adelabu described the concession agreement—facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Power in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources—as a historic milestone that clearly reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that the project will stimulate socioeconomic growth, rural development, job creation, improved power generation, irrigation farming, tourism development, and commercial fishing, particularly for the people of Oke-Ogun.

The Minister emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration remains fully committed to ensuring that strategic national assets like Ikere Gorge are productively utilized to deliver real value to host communities and Nigerians at large.

On the same day, joy overflowed in Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area, as Chief Adebayo Adelabu commissioned a 33KV distribution line, restoring stable and reliable electricity to the entire town. Residents poured into the streets in celebration, describing the moment as a “new dawn” after years of power challenges. Businesses, artisans, students, and households expressed gratitude as light returned to Okeho, symbolizing progress and renewed confidence in government.

The commissioning aligns squarely with the Federal Government’s determination under President Tinubu to fix the power sector and drive inclusive development to every corner of Nigeria, leaving no community behind.

During the visit, the Minister highlighted key achievements already recorded by the Ministry of Power under the Tinubu administration. These include the decentralization of the power sector through the Electricity Act, attraction of over $2 billion in private sector investment, transition to a service-based tariff system, and the free distribution and installation of electricity meters nationwide, among other reforms.

Chief Adelabu also called on the people of Okeho, Iseyin, and Oke-Ogun at large to take ownership of the power infrastructure by working closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to protect electricity equipment. He warned against vandalism and theft of power assets, stressing that the facilities now belong to the people and must be safeguarded collectively.

Across Iseyin, Okeho, and the entire Oke-Ogun region, the mood was unmistakably one of jubilation, gratitude, and renewed trust in leadership, as communities applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister Adebayo Adelabu for turning promises into visible, life-changing results.
