President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday charged all the rank and file of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Oyo State to immortalize the late former Governor Lamidi Adesina by winning the 2027 governorship election.
President Tinubu who spoke through the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu made the charge on Monday at the maiden edition of Lam Adesina Annual Lecture Series organized in remembrance of late former progressives leader in Ibadan, Oyo State.
At the lecture hosted by Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina (son of late former Governor and former House of Representatives member), the President implored all the aggrieved individuals and divides in the party to put behind them the ugly past, close the ranks and work together as a family to reclaim the control of the state government in the next poll.
He avowed that the best immortalization for the late governor is to return the state to the progress fold saying such would redeem the hope of the people in the political capital of Yoruba race and smoothen his administration working relationship with the government of the state.
“Lam Adesina stood for high democratic ideals that underpin the democratic system of government. Ideals that are essential for ensuring that power is held by the people, either directly or through elected representatives. Ideals of effective participation in governance with citizens making their views known on policy decisions. Consequently, to honour his memory; the Progressives in Oyo state must come together as one. You all must fight the fight and win the battle come 2027, Oyo state must return to the progressive fold.”
The guest lecturer of the event themed “Improving Nigeria’s Governance: Lessons From The Past, Strategies For The Future” Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who was represented by Sen. Shuaib Salisu emphasised the need for Nigerians to rediscover the value system which would encourage citizens to be more responsible, morally upright and diligent as against the culture of indiscipline, avarice and corruption.
The show witnessed the convergence of hundreds of associates, supporters and family members of the late former governor who died in 2012. Alh. Adesina was a member of the House of Representatives (1979-1983), Chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), celebrated newspaper columnist and an accomplished educationist who participated in the struggle which ended military rule in Nigeria in 1999.
