Abia: Alex Otti Inspects Alaoji Power Station, Reassures on Huge Potential of Project

Abia state governor, Alex Otti, on Wednesday, March 19, inspected the Alaoji Power Station, along with the Chairman of the Chrome Group, Chief Emeka Offor.

The facility is equipped with a 1,074MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) capacity, managed and maintained by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) as part of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), an initiative of the Federal Government.

Otti made this known in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, March 20.

He wrote in part: “Yesterday, I conducted an inspection of the Alaoji Power Station, accompanied by Chief Emeka Offor, Chairman of the Chrome Group. The facility boasts a 1,074MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) capacity. It is currently being managed and maintained by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) as part of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), an initiative of the Federal Government. Additionally, the plant’s generation infrastructure will be enhanced with the introduction of two General Electric (GE) Steam turbines, each with a capacity of 286MW, under the auspices of the Chrome Consortium.

“As a government, we see great potential and opportunities in this project which is key to fulfilling the developmental objectives and the energy requirements of other parts of our state that are not under the existing Integrated Power Project (IPP), namely the Geometric Power. It is acknowledged that the current generation capacity is suboptimal due to gas supply constraints. I wish to extend my commendations to Chief Emeka Offor for his dedication to this endeavour and his assurances regarding the resolution of the challenges of power generation and gas procurement. In no distant time, Umuahia and other LGAs will benefit ultimately from this effort.”
