Ondo: Residents Cautioned on Flooding as NOA Kicks Off Nationwide Campaign

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has cautioned residents of Ondo State on the dangers of flooding as it flagged off its nationwide campaign for civic responsibility and value reorientation. The campaign, which began with advocacies to critical stakeholders, has also taken to the airwaves to ensure wider reach and public engagement.

The sensitization drive focuses on five thematic areas: flooding and natural disaster preparedness, excessive “sign-out” practices in schools, security consciousness in communities, government policies and programmes, and the promotion of national identity and symbols.

Speaking during a live engagement on Fresh 102.9 FM’s Guest of the Week and Crest 106.1 FM Akure, the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the campaign is designed to mobilize citizens toward positive behavioral change and preparedness for national challenges.

Represented by the Director of Civic, Values, and Democracy Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Olukemi Afolayan, the DG noted that flooding and other natural disasters remain recurring issues that claim lives and destroy livelihoods across the country. She explained that the campaign is about equipping Nigerians with the right knowledge and values to mitigate risks while also strengthening community resilience.

To achieve this ambitious goal, NOA is employing a hybrid strategy—combining digital innovations with grassroots mobilization. Tools such as the CLHEEAN AI chatbot, the Agency’s revitalized website (www.noa.gov.ng), and the Weekly Explainer e-journal are being deployed alongside nationwide roadshows, school visits, market campaigns, motor park sensitization, and media broadcasts in local languages. National TV documentaries will also amplify the campaign’s impact.

Ondo State Director of NOA, Mr. James Adekunle, at a Press conference earlier held to flag off the campaign in the state called for unity and personal responsibility, stressing that Nigeria’s destiny lies not only in the hands of government but also in the commitment of its people. “As we build Nigerians through information, values, and identity, we will indeed build a stronger Nigeria,” he affirmed.
