Oyo: FG Seek Partnership with State Govt to Achieve Stable Power Supply

The Federal Government through the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has called for collaboration with the Oyo State Government on how to improve electricity supply in the state.

The minister of Power made this call when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Seyi Makinde at the State Secretariat in Ibadan.

Adelabu, who was accompanied by top management of the ministry, the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz; the Managing Director for Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad; Operation Engineer, TCN National Control Center, Ishola Adegboye told newsmen that he was on a working visit to Oyo State to see the governor and discuss areas of partnership.

He added that the responsibility of providing a stable, reliable, functional and sustainable power supply remains the prerogative of the government, while emphasising that operators are just drivers of the process on behalf of government.

According to the minister, his ministry believes that governments at all levels must cooperate to see how they can improve the electricity supply to the people which remains one of the primary factor for building an economy

“The state governments have a major role to play when it comes to distribution, rural electrification, improving metering, and other distribution infrastructure against looting and vandalism.

“We are here to see how we can partner, collaborate and cooperate with the state government, especially the state Ministry of Energy, Electricity Board and Rural Electrification Board,” Adelabu said.

At the end of the highly productive meeting, Engr. Seyi Makinde thereafter presented Chief Adelabu with an award of excellence in recognition of his office as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Oyo State.
