Oyo: NOA Begins Campaign to Enlighten Nigerians on Unsafe Students Sign-Out Practices, Flood Mitigation, Security Awareness, Others

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) led by the Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu has rolled out five thematic campaigns designed to retool the mindset and sensitise Nigerians on government policies and programs like Flood Mitigation and Disaster Preparedness; National Security Awareness; Value Re-orientation for Students Against Extreme Sign-Out Practice; and Nation Identity and Symbol Campaign.

The press conference which kick-started the nationwide enlightenment campaign in Oyo State was held at the Agodi State Directorate Office on Tuesday with Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who was ably represented by Mr. Temitope Adewumi, the National Deputy Director for Establishment, in his address explained that the new campaign is a two-week nationwide civic engagement drive across the 36 states of the federation and 774 local government areas of the country.

He added that the sensitization campaign will take place in markets, schools, motor parks, religious institutions and community halls across all local government areas across the country. Radio, TV and social media campaigns will also run daily with feedback channels to be open for citizen engagement.

“Over the next two weeks: Press conference will be held in all 36 states including FCT. Grassroots outreach will take place in markets, schools, motor parks, religious institutions and community halls in all 774 LGAs. Radio, TV and social media campaigns will run daily to reach Nigerians wherever they are. Feedback channels including toll-free and social media platforms will be open for citizen engagement.” Mallam Lanre said.

Mallam Issa-Onilu harped further that the success of the campaign will produce informed and active citizens, safer communities, flourishing youth, endured heritage and preparedness ahead of any natural disasters.

The Oyo State Director, Mrs Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande in her address also highlighted some of the other sub-activities that will lend credence to the campaign which include Stakeholders engagement/Town Hall meeting, Media appearances, Road shows/rally with advocacy visits to traditional rulers and others.

“Accordingly, other sub activities to lend credence to the campaign include, Stakeholders engagement/
Town hall meeting, media appearances on selected media stations, road show/ Rally for awareness drive, campus sensitization against prevailing immoral sign-out practice., Advocacy visits to traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders, social media campaigns, etc.” Mr Ajolayo concluded.
