The attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has been drawn to recent comments by one group called, the “National Progressive Initiative (NPI)” suggesting that the Minister’s ongoing zonal consultative visits across Oyo State are politically motivated. This assertion is both inaccurate and unnecessarily imaginative.
Chief Adelabu’s engagements were not campaigns, but a continuation of his efforts to strengthen unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Oyo State. The visits were strictly internal party affairs, attended only by APC members, focused on dialogue, reconciliation, and grassroots engagement. If sincere party consultations are now to be mistaken for political campaigning, then perhaps the definition of leadership itself needs revisiting.
It is equally important to state that Chief Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and one of the youngest Executive Directors in the history of First Bank, is far too decent and financially prudent to indulge in the reckless practice of “throwing money around” to curry political favour. His history—both in public service and politics—has never reflected such behaviour. His reputation for discipline, performance, and accountability is well-established and remains his most valuable political capital.
As Oyo State’s representative in the Federal Executive Council, Chief Adelabu has a duty to brief his constituents on government reforms, particularly in the power sector, where progress continues to be made under his leadership. His consultations were therefore a demonstration of accountability, not ambition. If anyone finds the renewed energy and unity within Oyo APC unsettling, they are welcome to emulate it through constructive engagement rather than misrepresentation.
Chief Adelabu remains committed to uniting his party, delivering on his national responsibilities, and promoting politics of performance and integrity—values that will always speak louder than speculation.
