Borno: Gov Zulum Discloses 160,000 Boko Haram, Families Have Surrendered Over Non Kinetic Effort of Nigerian Military

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has disclosed that about 160,000 Boko Haram insurgents and their families have surrendered sequel to the non-kinetic effort of the Nigerian Military.

Mr Zulum made the disclosure on Tuesday when the defence minister alongside the service chiefs paid an operational visit to the Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, in Maiduguri.

The governor, however, sought the support of the military in terms of manpower development to enable the state to curtail transborder small arms and light weapons proliferation.

“We have insurgency in other part of the country but the security in the northeast is very important for the stability of the country because of the porous borders with Niger, Cameroon and Chad Republics.

“We have to ensure that we don’t have safe haven for ISWAP in the northeast as the Sahel is now a major problem,” he said.
