Monday Reflections: Happy Birthday, Gov Seyi Makinde – A word for you on your act of lawlessness || Aderemi Ogundele

Congratulations, Your Excellency on the occasion of your birthday. Many happy returns of the day. Merry Christmas too as your celebrations today are in multiple folds.

It is a rare privilege to share the same birthday with our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks to goodness for labelling you a Christian as well. By virtue of your faith, one would expect that you must have sang this popular Christian Song times without number,

“Mo fe ki ndabi Jesu, ninu iwa pele…”

What are those credible attributes of Jesus that stand him out?

They are: Loving, Forgiving, Humility, Compassion, Gentleness, Self-control, Patience, Obedience, Honesty and Prayerfulness, according to Brent Rinehart www.apparentstuff.com.

For the purpose of this write-up, I will like to single out, “obedience”. There is a need for obedience in leadership because it is a virtue.

Obedient leaders are leaders who set the examples of following the rules and submitting when needed.

“And being found in human form, he (Jesus) humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!” (Phillipians 2:8).

Pontius Pilate presided over his trial and ultimately ordered his crucifixion. Jesus Christ, despite his enormous power obeyed the rulings of Pilate’s court.

It was a worldly judgement, yet Jesus submitted himself to the will of the state. That is obedience to the constituted authorities.

Your Excellency, from the point of view of your faith, can you claim that you share this simple attribute of obedience with Jesus?

The answer is NO. No, probably because it is politics. That means when your political interest is in conflict with your faith, your faith suffers. This is an established fact about you as a Christian which is not chrislike. It is your choice to make anyway.

Your Excellency took an oath of office for the second term as the governor of Oyo State on the 29 May, 2023.

You swore to defend and uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. One would expect that with this sacred oath taken, you would adhere to the rule of law in handling the affairs of the State, but unfortunately, the reverse is the case.

You wilfully pervert justice, and unrepentantly desecrate the temple of justice at will. Your penchant for making a nonsense of judicial pronouncements is legendary despite once being a beneficiary of the judiciary. You have chosen to live above the law, and to rule like an Emperor.

Emperor Elsalaise of Ethiopia , our own Bashorun Gaa of the old Oyo Empire just to mention a few ruled their people as if their world would never end. But alas, it ended at the appointed time of God.

This is not to even mention a two – term governorship tenure you undeservedly earned that is bound to end like a flash. Power is transient! Your tenure will soon end too, no doubt about that. All the brags of today will become history.

In a previous edition of the Monday Morning Reflections, I wrote exclusively about you: “Governor Seyi Makinde and His Reckless Impunity Towards The Supreme Court Judgement In Focus”.

I’m in doubt if you ever read the piece. Emperors are always detached and disconnected from their people. That is one of their traits and I’m sure you can’t be an exception in this regard.

At that point in reference, a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice A.O Ebong had just ruled on a motion ex-parte marked FCT/HC/BW/238/2023 filed by the Ex-chairpersons and Councillors led by Bashorun Majeed Bosun Ajuwon and others.

They represented the Chairpersons and Councillors sacked by you in the eve of 29 May, 2019. The ruling was delivered on March 2, 2023.

The judge was magnanimous enough to spread the payment of the debt you owe the sacked Local Government Chairpersons and Councillors for a period of one year to make it easy for the State Government.

This was obviously contrary and possibly in contravention to the earlier Supreme Court verdicts of 7 May, 2021 which mandated the payment to have been made within a period of three months.

Despite the human face dispositions demonstrated towards the State Government by the the judge in that ruling, Your Excellency still appealed the judgement. I predicted then that the outcome would never be in your favor.

The Appeal Court has ruled against Your Excellency again, describing your actions as being disrespectful to the judiciary and consequently slammed on you a fine of N50m.

As we speak, another garnishee order of the Federal High Court in Abuja freezing ten bank accounts of the State Government is in force. It was obtained on 15 December, 2023 and the legal battle is slated for 5 January, 2024.

The posture of Mr Governor on the issue as usual still suggests a man that is stone-hearted. This you publicly demonstrated last Saturday.

I listened attentively to the Live Radio Program that featured you and I wept for Oyo State. Your delivery in response to most of the questions was poor and irritating. They were not even potent enough to convince a palm wine tapper or a little kid.

If I may reveal this to you, you actually disappointed the good people of Oyo State who are versatile and knowledgeable. Putting your output side by side with the one granted the former PMS manger, Alhaji Mukaila Auxiliary sometimes ago, one can hardly spot any difference.

You were unintelligently arrogant especially while responding to the issue of the litigations between the sacked Local Government Council Officials and the Oyo State Government.

You even boasted and threatened to deal with them five years after illegally pushing them out of office. You must be a joker. On what ground will you punish them? After all, you have ruined the Local Governments in the State to a pitiable level.

“Agbe malu fe se Idajo agbe adire”. This is preposterous and in fact paradoxical. To say the obvious, that statement was not only cheap, it was unguarded and obviously, an empty threat.

Maybe Your Excellency is looking for assignment where there is none to testrun your pseudo and moribund Oyo State EFCC that has been in limbo since its inception.

Where even stands your strength apart from hiding under that error in our constitution called immunity to perpetrate executive rascality?

When an earthworm is biting like a snake, an housefly stinging like a bee and a toad behaving like a crocodile, there must be a false force behind it.

It is nothing but that “yeye” immunity clause in the constitution that will enable an ordinary being in such a position to be acting like a super ordinary phenomenon.

No capacity, no competence and no charisma to deal with sensitive issues affecting the State. What a shame!

Your Excellency, please listen and listen good. I have said it in the past, and I am saying it again for the sake of emphasis. This is one case you have lost, and you have lost it forever no matter what you do.

You can run, but you can’t hide! You may be clever enough to avoid judgement but you cannot be smart enough to evade justice.

The Almighty God is a God of justice… “For the Lord is a God of justice, blessed are all those who wait for him” (Isaiah 3:18)

The case is rolling back to the Supreme Court once again. I hope your team of hungry lawyers are ready for the battles ahead.

I hope they are prepared to confront and fight with the lions at the Supreme Court. I’m sure your subservient Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice is ready to challenge the willpower of the jury at the Supreme Court and face the consequences.

“Aimo ise ko omorogun lo je ko ti ori bo omi gbigbona” Someone may not be that lucky this time around because we are not living in banana republic. There are consequences for unprofessional conduct by lawyers at the Supreme Court.

How I wish they expunge from our constitution, the “yeye” immunity clause that is giving you guys the liver to be power intoxicated. It is important for the lawless Emperors to face the consequences of their actions while in office.

But “iyan ogun odun, a ma jo ni lowo”. Things will naturally take its course. While the “tormentees” will survive the tormentor, the tormentor may become very irrelevant in few years to come.

I’m cock sure that that Earthworm called GSM days are numbered in the Government House. It remains just a little. Therefore, let’s continue to endure the shenanigans of the General Silly Mistake of the moment.

You may choose to come after me.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year in advance. Aseyi samodun.
