Monday Reflections: The Eagle Has Finally Landed in APC, Advocates for Unity || Aderemi Ogundele

“The eagle has landed”. These were the words of Neil Armstrong telling the Mission Control that the Apollo 11 LM had successfully landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. Yes, on the 15 December, 2023, the formal return of the Honourable Minister of Power, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu and his teeming supporters to the All Progressives Congress was undoubtedly a landmark achievement of a very high political magnitude. It can aptly be described as the last and probably the biggest political event that must have held in the ancient city of Ibadan in particular, and Oyo State in general as the year 2023 is winding up.

It was a joyous occasion, full of fun and glamour as the duo of the Fuji Maestros, Commy Jackson and Pasuma Alabi entertained the audience with stimulating songs. The traditional talking drummers of gangan in various teams were also on ground, singing praises of notable personalities and cashing out.

The Secretariat of the party at Oke Ado, Ibadan was agog as the party faithful in their blue and white exotic Ankara stuff thronged the venue and gave an unprecedented solidarity support to their leader, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi. They actually demonstrated to him that he was never alone in this struggle. An injury to one, is an injury to all!

The nostalgic feelings of the returnees were quite noticeable and understandable at the occasion. It was an historic moment as they were enthusiastically received by the State Exco of the party. “Ajo ki dun ko nile ma rele”. Home! Sweet Home! “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back” (Wendy Wunder). “A ki gba akata lowo akiti; a ki gba ile baba eni lowo eni”. One cannot deprive the monkey of its agile spirit; a man cannot be deprived of his inheritance. That is the summary of the story of the Accord returnees to the All Progressives Congress.

Politics can sometimes be funny because one’s actions today are majorly influenced by his interest at that moment. At a time in the past, certain forces coerced the people out of their party, but quite interestingly, and right now as we speak, another counter forces are at work, bringing them back. This means that in politics, there are no permanent friends, no permanent enemies but permanent interest.

The returnees have come back to their home primarily to add value that will engender future electoral successes for the party. The Honourable Minister of Power, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu in his address at the gathering assured the people that his major concern is to contribute his quota to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to cooperate with others to carry the APC to greater height. He said that the time for politicking is over. Now is the time for governance. And that Nigerians deserve to enjoy the dividends of democracy. He enjoined all and sundry at whatever level to give maximum support to the PBAT as he is actually working tirelessly to eliminate the prevailing hardships in the land and replace it with prosperity.

Speaking on behalf of the State Chairman, Hon Isaac Omodewu who was unavoidably absent, the State Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite expressed happiness for having one of the illustrious members of the party back into the fold. He described the return of Oloye Adebayo Adelabu as a boost to the party, a welcome development and a cause of jittery in camp of the opposition, People’s Democratic Party. Indeed, the eagle has finally landed!

“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it” Not be me talk that one, but nah the man dem dey call George Moore ooo.

Wishing you a Merry in advance.
