Niger Coup: France Suspends all its Development Aid and Budget Support Actions in Niger

According to communications from Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, France has suspended with immediate effect all of its development aid and budget support actions in Niger Republic in what is a direct response to the Coup attack in the country.

France also demanded immediate return of Nigeriene constitutional order, around President Mohamed Bazoum, elected by Nigerienes.

It should be noted that in 2022 French public development assistance for Niger was 120 million euros and this slightly higher amount that was planned for 2023 will therefore not be made available to Niger.

Niger new Authority warn State Diplomatic and Consular Missions, to refrain from any behavior or talk against the new government

The communication to this effect reads:

Subject: Instructions from the authorities of the National Council for the Protection of Homeland (CNSP) on the positions taken by certain Heads of Missions

It has been noted that as a result of the events taking place in our country since July 26, 2023, some Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts are allowing themselves to take positions publicly or through messages on social networks, against the new authorities and the communications and speeches they deliver.

Therefore, the National Council for the Protection of the Homeland (NSP) urges members of Niger State Diplomatic and Consular Missions, to refrain from any behavior or talk of that nature, in order to comply strictly with their missions as Niger State representatives abroad.

I hereby invite the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts to ensure adherence to these instructions.

The Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Ado ELHADJI ABOU
