Oyo: Court Annuls Appointment of King Ghandi Olaoye as Soun of Ogbomoso

The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has upheld the appointment of the new Soun for Ogbomoso, King Ghandi Olaoye.

The Oyo state government announced Pastor Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun of the city’s residents and made him king on August September 2023.

Before this time, another scholar, who was sued for taking Soun’s position, Kabir Laoye had appealed that Ghandi Olaoye was not eligible to take Soun’s position.

The court ordered at that time that the Oyo state government must not appoint anyone to the position, until he will issue his judgment.

The announcement came out after that that the Oyo state government has appointed Pastor Ghandi Laoye as the new Soun even Ogbomoso.

Why did the judge announce Soun’s new appointment?

His Highness Kabir Olaoye who sued to challenge Ghandi’s appointment explained that there was a formal flaw in the process by which he was appointed.

He is urging the Supreme Court to accept the appointment of this new king, and he does not order the judges to start the process of appointing another scholar.

While delivering his judgment, Judge Adedokun who was hearing the case announced that the appointment of King Laoye was illegal.

He also ordered the judges to start the right process to elect a new Soun

Earlier, Judge Adedokun dismissed three petitions brought before him by one of the accusers, His Highness Adeyemi Taofiq Akorede Laoye.

The petitions are also challenging the appointment of the new president.
