Oyo: NOA Organises WAI Brigade Retreat, As Agency Targets Improved Recruitment Operation to Reposition Command

The Oyo State, National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Saturday organised a retreat for the paramilitary wing known as WAI Brigade to reposition the state command to further enhance service delivery.

Prince Adesola Ayodele Sanda, the Deputy State Director, Local Government Operations and Special Duties of the National Orientation Agency, Oyo state Directorate, who also doubles as the State Co-ordinator of Oyo State WAI Brigade command disclose this on Saturday at the retreat held at the NOA State Directorate Office at Agodi, Ibadan.

Prince Adesola Sanda made it known that WAI Brigade in the State is set for repositioning from the Local Government command to the State. “It starts from officers in the field, they are expected to go to their command and train their officers from the experiences gained at the retreat”.

He assured that the training process will be continuous, with the vision that the best officers in the command will soon be attained. It will be recalled that the WAI brigade was set up to instill orderliness, discipline, nationalism and other moral etiquettes on the citizens in line with Act 64 of 2007.

Prince Sanda also assured on the command to embark of recruitment exercise and it will not be business as usual. “The agency has secured the approval of the state government to go to all the secondary school students to absorb them into WAI Brigade in Oyo State. The recruitment will also be streamlined to meet the educated groups in the society, so that new members can perform optimally.” He added.

Dr Aremu Samuel Oyebisi Ph.D, NSCDC Divisional Office, Dugbe who is the Guest Speaker exhorted the WAI officers to take the retreat as a stepping stone to better their lots. He also charged them to be more functional and discharge their primary roles with greater efficiency which should be passed unto their subordinates by improving their morale and work ethics.

The Theme of the retreat is “EVALUATING THE PARAMILITARY STRUCTURE AND MORAL IN VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION, (WAI BRIGADE, A CASE STUDY)”

Dr Oyebisi further reminded them that the primary aim of the Brigade was to instill discipline, he also delved on the guiding principles and mission statement of voluntary organisation and why its imperative that they should remember always that gathering intelligence and curbing indiscipline remains one of the core objective of the WAI Brigade service.

The State Head of Administration/Secretary, WAI Brigade, Oyo State Command, Adeyemo Abioye Emmanuel who was the second lecturer at the retreat took the participants through the creation of NOA and WAI and how it evolved through he processes to become WAI Brigade. He also in clear terms enlighten them on the aims and objective of the Brigade with laid down goals for attaining promotion in the service.

Thereafter there was the questions and answers session where participants were allowed to ask troubling questions with the principal officers all combining to reply their questions including the Deputy State Commander, Elufisan Oludare fwip, JP fcss.

All participants were also presented with certification of attendance which was mentioned will form a part of their basic requirements for promotion during service. Also present at the retreat is the Acting WAI State Command, Commander Moshood Waheed who gave his invaluable support to the success of the retreat.
