Oyo: Makinde Gives Update on Distribution of Food Relief Package

The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has provided an update on the distribution of the Food Relief Package in Thursday’s newsletter stating that it will commence next week. The package is aimed at supporting 200,000 vulnerable households in the state during these challenging times.

Governor Makinde who is currently in Kigali, Rwanda, where he is attending an Executive Leadership Retreat organized by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Governor Makinde expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far in implementing the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER).

“We have been working tirelessly to ensure that our economy continues to run optimally despite the removal of fuel subsidy. We have created committees and sub-committees as part of the implementation process. Now, I am happy to inform you that the planning process is drawing to a close, and we are ready to begin the full implementation of SAfER,” Governor Makinde said.

The governor also shed light on how the social register containing details of the vulnerable households was created and updated. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, we deployed trusted representatives to communities across the state. They met with and spoke to community heads who helped to identify the vulnerable in their midst. After this, we conducted further verification of the data,” he explained.

Governor Makinde emphasized the thoroughness of the distribution process, which will cover all 33 Local Government Areas in the state. Each household will receive 10kg of rice, as well as 5kg each of beans, garri, and elubo, along with a bottle of groundnut oil.

He urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities during the distribution process. “If you spot any funny business in your community, remember you can always reach out through this newsletter or any of the other feedback channels we have made available to you,” Governor Makinde said.

The distribution of the Food Relief Package is part of the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy and ensuring that vulnerable households have access to essential food items during these challenging times.
