Oyo: New Aseyin of Iseyin Begins Seclusion Rites, High Priest Bans Filming, Photography

The new Aseyin of Iseyin, Prince Sefiu Olawale Oyebola, Adeyeri 111, has commenced his seclusion rites in preparation for his installation on Thursday. However, the High Priest of the town, High Chief Ifasoji Adeyemi, has issued a warning against filming and taking photographs during the process.

According to the priest, it is against custom to record the seclusion rites of the Aseyin-designate in any form. All necessary traditional requirements for appeasement processes and prayers have already been completed.

During his seclusion, the new Aseyin will receive tutelage on the history of his fore-bearers and how they ruled, as well as the background of each ancient household. This period will last for seven days, with various locations involved in the process.

High Chief Adeyemi stated, “We are entering the Igbo Oba tonight to commence the rites, from Aaba Itan groove to Aaba Odo Iseyin to Igbo Imokin for the continuation of the process for the next seven days.” He also emphasized that residents of Iseyin who wish to witness the process must refrain from filming or taking photographs at the grooves, as it would be considered sacrilege to the traditional rites.
